Mr Sulaiman Alazzawi

Mr Sulaiman Alazzawi is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacements, including complex revision surgeries and robotic-assisted procedures. He currently holds an NHS post at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is affiliated with the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), one of the largest joint replacement centres in the UK. In this role, he leads on the management of failed, painful or infected hip and knee replacements, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. He also runs outpatient clinics at St George’s Hospital and the Nelson Health Centre, and serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s, University of London.

In private practice, Mr Alazzawi consults and operates at several leading centres. At Spire St Anthony’s Hospital, he sees patients with hip and knee pain and performs a wide range of procedures including primary and revision hip and knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, and robotic-assisted joint surgeries. His clinical expertise covers the treatment of joint degeneration, arthritis, cartilage damage and complex cases involving loose or infected implants.

At Parkside Hospital, part of Nuffield Health, Mr Alazzawi provides specialist orthopaedic care with a focus on enhanced recovery after surgery. He uses cutting-edge techniques such as robotic-assisted and custom-made implants to deliver personalised treatment plans for patients requiring joint replacement. His approach aims to optimise outcomes and minimise recovery times for both primary and revision procedures.

Mr Alazzawi is also part of the Fortius Clinic team, including the Fortius Joint Replacement Centre at Spire St Anthony’s. Here, he collaborates with other subspecialists to manage complex arthroplasty cases. His work includes robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements, as well as the treatment of tendonitis, osteonecrosis, and joint degeneration. Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary environment supported by the latest surgical innovations.

He completed his medical training at the University of Baghdad and undertook basic surgical training in the East of England, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). He holds a postgraduate MSc from University College London and completed higher specialist training in Orthopaedics on the Royal London Rotation, achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS Tr&Orth). He further refined his expertise through prestigious international fellowships, including a trauma fellowship in Hannover under Professor Christian Kretek and the renowned adult reconstruction fellowship in Vancouver, mentored by Professors Duncan, Garbuz, Masri and Greidanus. He has also been a visiting fellow at leading global centres such as the Mayo Clinic, Hospital for Special Surgery, and ENDO-Klinik.

Mr Alazzawi’s clinical and academic interests centre around joint replacement surgery. He has authored more than 30 scientific publications and book chapters, and regularly presents at national and international conferences. He is a peer reviewer for journals including the Bone & Joint Journal, Injury, The Knee and BMJ, and has received several awards for his contributions to research and quality improvement. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society, British Association for Surgery of the Knee and the European Hip Society. He speaks English and Arabic and sees adult patients only.
