i underwent a radical prostatectomy for a grade 2 c prostate carcinoma. using the da Vinci robotic system by Professor Greg Shaw. I found him to be easy to talk to and he explained my surgical and non surgical options at our first appointment. He gave me confidence and also explained the possible complications from surgery. I opted for the Robotic surgery which was expertly performed. The first post operative day I was sleepy but absolutely without discomfort. I live some distance from London and as a result I was given the option of a two night stay. The second day i did have a little discomfort to my upper back but it was easily resolved with paracetamol. I was warned by Prof Shaw that this would happen and it was due to the gas that was infused into the abdomen to help with visualisation of the prostate and to to reduce the bleeding. The mild discomfort was gone by day 4 and I was fully mobile by day 2. It is early days and the urinary catheter was removed just under a week ago and although I can feel he need to pass urine at night so I remain mostly dry the sensation has only returned a little during the day but every day is better than the previous one. In short the surgery for me was easy and the post operative course has been good. The urinary problems I was warned about and I feel sure it will be only a week further before I am dry. i would recommend Prof Shaw to you without hesitation he is a most pleasant gentleman and I have confidence in him both as a communicator and as a surgeon.
I am currently under the care of Prof Greg Shaw after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in May of this year (2025) Prof Shaw and team continue to provide excellent medical attention throughout. From initial consultations and discovery through to MRI, biopsy, and robotic surgery, the entire process was managed with professionalism, clarity, and compassion. The road ahead was discussed in detail over several consultations with different treatment options presented., Prof Shaw explained each of the different treatments and likely success rates, which ultimately was the driver for my decision to have surgery. Professor Shaw’s bedside manner is calm, reassuring, and deeply respectful qualities that were especially appreciated.. His surgical skill and precision were evident post operation, and I felt confident and safe in his care. I would also like to mention Dr Maria Chazapis, consultant anaesthetist, whose calm presence and clear communication helped ease my nerves before surgery. Her excellent bedside manner, combined with her ability to explain the procedure and ensure my comfort, made a significant difference to my experience. Katrina O’Toole, Professor Shaw’s PA, was exceptional in coordinating appointments and keeping me informed throughout the process. Her responsiveness and attention to detail ensured that everything ran smoothly, and she is a vital point of contact during a complex and emotionally time. In particular, Sister Vicky Clarete deserves special recognition for the post Op removal of my catheter. Her bedside manner and skill were exceptional; ...
Read moreI am really pleased that you have had a good experience under my care. Thank you also for acknowledging the amazing team who support my work.
The procedure was successful so may be effecting my view but it went without complication, resulting in best possible outcome and my recovery and side effects (so far) have been minimal. That makes it as good as you can get . Greg is very personable and professional, this makes you feel confident about the whole procedure. Only comment would be HCA pre operation procedures were quite complicated, being added to by my slightly complicated private health scheme. There was so much going on with various departments wasn't quite sure who I was supposed to reply to, this was exaggerated by the crossover between NHS and private health. Having said that, everything went to plan without any delay or complications.
The bureaucracy of the insurance companies can be a pain for which I am sorry. I’m glad we got through it to get you a good outcome.
Wonderful treatment and experience with Professor Shaw. The appointment with him was a complete pleasure. We were seeking a second opinion on how to proceed with an enlarged prostate in the face of conflicting advice. We had complete confidence in his knowledge and advice. He was encouraging, succinctly clarified many issues, enabling us to know how to go forward.
Prof Shaw is excellent I have total faith in him,my prostate biopsy was painless and thankfully I don’t have cancer. Going forward if I ever did develop it he is the consultant I would be seeing. He is warm friendly and relaxed
I know how important it is to have the best possible information when there is a suggestion of cancer. Glad to be of service.
Professor Shaw and his PA Kat make a great team and I felt I was in very capable and professional care throughout.
Thank you. So nice to see Kat get some recognition. Couldn’t do what I do without her!
Fantastic throughout the whole procedure from start to finish
Thank you
Prof. Shaw was my surgeon for a robotic nerve sparing radical prostatectomy. From the initial consultation (following a referral) throughout the entire process, up to and including my most recent 1 year PSA test follow up, Greg Shaw has been outstanding. My initial opinion by another surgeon was for a radical prostatectomy with certain lymph nodes also removed. Prof. Shaw and his radiology team’s view was that this was not necessary (and would have potentially added significant complications and have had long term implications), and he and the team have proven to be correct. Every interaction has been very professional and he has always taken sufficient time with me to explain/expand and answer any questions. Follow ups have been easy to arrange and always have been on time. I would highly recommend Prof Shaw and the team at the Prostate Center.
The side effects of radical prostatectomy can be mitigated with right information. That information is provided to me by experts in radiology and pathology, as well as the sage advice of the multi-disciplinary team in which I operate. I’m glad we were able to help you avoid those side effects.
I Was Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in April of 2022. After initial consultations with the NHS . I decided to proceed with Prof Shaw. I was obviously very scared and nervous about what was to come but Mr shaw reassured me throughout the journey and to this day still checks in with me to ensure everything is going in the right direction for which I am very Grateful. He is so easy to talk too and explained everything in a manner which I understood. I will be forever grateful for his time and the great care that he took of me.
There comes a time where one has to take action. The trick is in spotting the opportunity before it’s too late. A stitch or two in time…..
Correct and precise. To say that my biopsy and cytoscopy caused me neither pain nor distress is an understatement. Perfect treatment. I must also thank Kat, Professor Shaw's PA, who was extremely helpful.
I am lucky to have such a strong team supporting me. Thank you, and them!

UrologistProf Shaw is a brilliant robotic surgeon who has pioneered new techniques to improve bladder control after surgery (CUP technique) and proven that frozen section ( NeuroSAFE) during robotic prostatectomy enhances potency. I heartily endorse him.
