About Dr Halina Fitz-Clarence

Dr Halina Fitz-Clarence is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the London Clinic. Dr Fitz-Clarence also holds the position of Honorary Senior Lecturer at the UCL/UCL Hospital, where she created the Osteoporosis Service, which she led for twenty years since 1997 as a Consultant. She is an internationally-renowned specialist in the field of adult osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. Her particular clinical expertise and interests are secondary osteoporosis, including male osteoporosis, HIV, rheumatological connective tissue disease, celiac disease and eating disorders, drug-induced osteoporosis eg. steroids, aromatase inhibitors, anti androgens, medication for retroviral diseases and bone disease in the course of neoplasia - breast, prostate. She is very well valued for her pragmatic and empathetic approach to her patients.

During her career, she received numerous prestigious awards and scholarships including the British Council Scholarship (for research at the London Hospital Medical School and The Middlesex Hospital) and Research Fellowship from the Arthritis Research Council (ARC). As a trainee, she also visited world-leading osteoporosis centers including the Mayo Clinic (USA), Aachen University, and Charite Hospital (Germany). In 2007, she was granted a patent for "Biomarkers for Bisphosphonate-responsive Bone Disorders" as a result of her interest in Personalised Medicine (International Publication No: WO2007-107717 A1, publication date 27 September 2007). She established The National Hip Fracture Database in close cooperation with Professor David Marsh and other orthopedic surgeons.

Dr Fitz-Clarence is also a Director of The Institute of the Sports and Exercise Medicine (Charity Registration No,- 313301) and Senior Editor of the Annals of Human Genetics (Wiley).
