About Mr Vivek Gulati
Mr. Gulati is a specialist hip & knee surgeon with extensive experience in treating the whole spectrum of hip and knee problmes. His practice mainly focuses on degenerative conditions, joint replacement surgeries and sports injuries.
He strives to deliver the highest standards of patient care by using the most up to date evidence based technologies with a kind, compassionate bedside manner. His operative practice focuses on hip, knee, partial knee replacement and arthroscopic surgery- with an additional interest in revision (re-do) surgery. His philosophy is centred around delivering the best possible surgical outcome only when all non-operative conservative measures have been exhausted. A range of modern biologic non-operative treatments are used for symptomatic joints that are not severe enough to pursue a surgical route.
His entire medical school training was undertaken at Cambridge University. He was successful in obtaining the Rolleston prize which led to a surgical internship at Harvard University's Massachusetts General Hospital. His orthopaedic Registrar training was undertaken via the highly competitive Imperial College North West Thames Programme. He carried out novel biomechanical research during this time using three-dimensional gait analysis to look at reasons why Osteoarthritis progresses in certain individuals only,
His research work has been published in over 30 international orthopaedic journals, such as the Bone & Joint Journal, Skeletal Radiology, Hip International, Gait & Posture, Clin Orthopaedic Related Research, and the Journal of Trauma. He was delighted to be invited to present his work at over 30 national and international conferences.
Mr. Gulati completed fellowships at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (which is renowned for its excellence in this area of care) and St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto (a world-leading institution). Outstanding feedback from students and colleagues for medical education resulted in him being awarded an Honorary Lectureship at Imperial College London.

Mr Gulati explained the procedure very clearly to me. He was also very welcoming and I felt relaxed, and, therefore, able to ask any questions and points of clarification. I have complete confidence in Mr Gulati and feel safe in his hands. I have no hesitation in recommending him very highly to others and thank him for his work. An excellent surgeon.
Dr. Gulati,while being utterly professional,was also very personable and answered any queries and put my mind at rest. In fact, all the staff were very attentive and put me at ease. From pre-op to post -op I have been very well looked after. If I had to visit a hospital and was given a choice of venue, it would The London Independent and all it's staff.
I saw Mr Gulati during October initially for a consultation. This confirmed and was followed by a total hip replacement in December concluding with a final follow on consultation in January. Mr Gulati proved to be an excellent surgeon throughout my journey. He was clear on his advice, a consummate professional in all our meetings and a very positive, warm and engaging demeanor overall have made for as positive an outlook as I could hope for. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Gulati.
Dr Gulati is an excellent physician, and I would strongly recommend him. He’s clear and thorough in his explanations, and I personally have had two excellent outcomes (2022 L. knee arthroscopy, 2025 R. KNEE arthroscopy).
It was wonderful to be seen by the consultant who had treated me more than 2 years ago. He remembered my injuries from that time. He gave me clear and expert advice that filled me with confidence. Only downer was that my appointment was overseen to why I was the last person to be seen in the waiting room.
I had a lovely post surgery follow up appointment today with Dr and the Orthopaedic team. I had my cast changed, staples removed and an X-ray to check my healing and ORIF surgery. My appointment was very smooth and quick. Dr Gulati was fantastic and reassuringly answered any questions I had regarding my recovery in detail. I have now left feeling positive about my journey ahead. Thank you so much!
