Mr Nimesh Patel

Nimesh Patel is a Consultant Adult and Paediatric ENT, Head, Neck, and Thyroid Surgeon with a special interests which include  head, neck, and facial cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, voice and swallowing disorders. He has expertise in minimally invasive (keyhole) treatments such as LASER and robotic surgery. He has an expertise in LASER snoring surgery and sleep apnoea treatment, offering both surgical and non-surgical options. He has performed over 10000 operations- ranging from tonsillectomy to major head and neck cancer surgery. He has performed over 30000 outpatient procedures and has a special experties in outpatient voice and throat operations and endoscopy.

Mr. Patel began his medical journey with an MBChB from the University of Manchester in 1992. He later completed his Fellowship in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1997, followed by the Specialist Certificate in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 2002. His training was at major centres in Manchester and London. Imcludiong the world famous Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, Grays Inn Road, London.

He has completed advanced training fellowships at the University of Michigan in the USA (Head and neck surgery, facial cancer surgery) and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia (Head and Neck surgery, Thyroid surgery, Sinus Surgery, Snoring and sleep apnea surgery).  He was appointed a consultant in 2004 at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

His commitment to advancing his expertise led him to pursue postgraduate studies, completing an MSc in Voice and Swallowing at the University of Newcastle in 2005, and an MSc in Evidence-Based Healthcare at the University of Oxford in 2012. In 2013, he earned a Diploma in Robotic Surgery from the University of Lorraine, followed by a Master of Studies in Genomics from the University of Cambridge in 2020.

Since 2004, Mr. Patel has been serving as a Consultant Otorhinolaryngologist at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, where he provides expert care in head, neck, and thyroid surgery. He leads the voice, swallowing and upper airway services.

He is a Visiting Professor at the Univeristy of Southampton. His research interests include medical technologies, molecular biology and minimally invasive ("keyhole") techniques for head and neck cancers. His academic career has led to over 50 publications in peer reviewed journals and many national and international presentations.

Mr. Patel  consults privately at Spire Southampton Hospital and the Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital.

 He is an active member of multiple professional organisations, including the British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists-Head and Neck Surgeons, Royal Society of Medicine, British Voice Association, British Lrryngological Association, British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists and British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons. He has served as president, treasurer or council member on a number of academic and medical associations. He has been a clinical adviseor to NHS England on Cancer Services.

He has served as associate medical director in a community hospital and lead head and neck cancer services locallly and regionally.
