Mr Mohantha Dooldeniya

Mr. Mohantha Dooldeniya is an accomplished Consultant Urological Surgeon with over 15 years of experience, specialising in urological cancer surgery, particularly prostate and bladder cancer. He is skilled in the investigation and management of a wide range of urological cancers, including kidney, prostate, bladder, testes, and penile cancers. His expertise encompasses evaluating and treating conditions such as blood in the urine, concerns regarding prostate cancer, and testicular or penile masses or lumps.

In addition to his cancer specialisation, Mr. Dooldeniya provides comprehensive general urological care, addressing lower urinary tract symptoms, infections, and bladder and urethral conditions through advanced imaging techniques such as CT, MRI, and ultrasound, as well as cystoscopy procedures.

Over his career, Mr. Dooldeniya has performed more than 1,000 cancer surgeries, including over 500 bladder diagnostic procedures such as cystoscopy and transurethral resection of bladder tumors. He has also carried out over 500 bladder outflow procedures and over 50 penoscrotal procedures annually, including circumcisions and hydrocele repairs.

Mr. Dooldeniya has made significant contributions to urological cancer services, establishing cancer programs at Southend University Hospital and improving cancer diagnostics and minimally invasive treatments at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust (MYTT). Under his leadership as Cancer Lead for Urology, he implemented innovations such as pre-biopsy MRI for prostate cancer screening and expanded access to Da Vinci robotic systems, which he employs for a range of procedures, including prostate and bladder cancer surgeries.

Currently serving as the Head of Service for Urology at MYTT and the Lead Clinician for Urology at Barnsley Foundation Trust, Mr. Dooldeniya is also the Clinical Lead for Minimally Invasive Surgery and chairs the weekly robotic services meeting.

An active participant in regional healthcare initiatives, Mr. Dooldeniya is a member of the West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire Cancer Alliances and contributes to the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) Urology Clinical Group.
