Mr Subhamoy Chatterjee is a Consultant spinal surgeon who practices in both Central London and the North London areas. Affectionately know as 'Bob' to his colleagues, he trained at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital. He undertook his initial surgical training in Oxford and finally on the Middlesex rotation in London. He went on to gain and complete a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship at Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals as well as Neurosurgical Spinal Fellowship at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. This dual training allowed him to develop and hone the latest techniques in spinal surgery.
He has always held a high regard for the importance of research and in 2003 achieved a distinction in his Master's Degree at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where he researched Biomechanics and Skeletal Tissue Degeneration. He maintains this within his current practice sitting on research committees and holds honorary research contracts at the Royal National Orthoapedic Hospital & Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals.
Mr Chatterjee is very committed to education and his research is widely published and presented. He lectures and teaches internationally and is a tutor in minimally invasive keyhole surgery. He is the author of numerous book chapters, articles and research papers, as well as the Consultant editor of several medical journals. Mr Chatterjee resides on several medical committees and is a spinal advisor to the NHS.
Throughout his practice he strongly believes in ensuring that his patients understand their conditions to help make an informed decision about their health.
His wife Lisa is also a trained Orthopaedic surgeon. Bob has varied interests outside of his practice, from fine food and wine to table tennis, but now it his two young daughters with whom he likes to spend his free time.

Mr Bob Chatterjee is described as clear, professional, friendly, and patient in his patient interactions. Patients praise his excellent surgical skills, thorough explanations of diagnoses, and conservative approach to treatments such as discectomies, spinal decompression, and the use of MRI scans for detailed findings. Many report life-changing outcomes, becoming pain free and regaining mobility, with common conditions treated including lower back pain, general back pain, and sciatica.
My visit to see Bob Chatterjee as a patient/client rather than referring to him for an opinion was confirmed. He provides clear and easy to understand information about the condition in hand. I felt well cared for. His personal approach gives me confidence to continue. I am so thankful that I chose him to be my surgeon.
Bob Chatterjee is simply wonderful. I recommend him unreservedly. He has overseen my care for 10 years.
Three weeks after the intervention I saw Mr Chatterjee who removed my stitches and seemed very satisfied with the outcome. He patiently answered all our questions and was very kind.
Excellent specialist, clear & precise advice & recommendations.
I had an outstanding experience at The London Clinic under the care of Mr Chatterjee and his team. From the very first consultation, Mr Chatterjee was clear, thorough, and reassuring — taking time to explain every aspect of the procedure and answer all my questions. His skill as a surgeon is truly exceptional, and the results have been life-changing. Thanks to him, I am now able to walk again without pain — something I hadn’t thought possible for a long time. The entire team at The London Clinic, from nurses to administrative staff, were professional, kind, and attentive throughout. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been treated here and would not hesitate to recommend Mr Chatterjee and The London Clinic to anyone in need of expert care.
Mr Chatterjee operated on me for spinal stenosis at L4/5 and compression of the the left L5 nerve root The operation was very successful which made me pain free
I have referred patients to Bob over several years. Have always received excellent feedback. Great bedside manner, options offered and ability to empathise. Is holistic in his approach and patient-centered. I have even taken close family to see Bob given his great care and manner. As a GP, he is accessible, diligent and clear.
