About Mr Ahmed Ahmed
Professor Ahmed is a specialist Consultant in Advanced Laparoscopic surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery and is an Associate Professor in Metabolic Surgery at Imperial College London. He is highly specialised in weight loss surgery (bariatric) and minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic). In particular, he is highly skilled in the minilap surgical technique which results in minimal scarring. He focuses on the pre-and post-operative care of his patients to ensure the best outcome and optimise recovery.
Mr Ahmed specialised in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery in both the UK and in the USA (Stanford and Rochester). During his training, he undertook a research degree into the mechanisms of complications of gastric bypass surgery and was awarded a PhD by Imperial College London for his work. He has over a 99% success rate in preventing open surgery during his laparoscopic procedures. Over his career, he has performed over 10000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries. He receives referrals from across the UK and abroad. He is regularly consulted for his opinion and feedback on highly complex bariatric cases. He imparts his expansive knowledge by training fellow surgeons in bariatric surgery and is involved with many professional courses on bariatric surgery.
His Imperial Weight Centre bariatric surgery unit has been appointed as an International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. He also sits on the highly prestigious International Bariatric Surgery Review Committee (IBSRC), which acknowledges his vast experience allowing him to evaluate bariatric surgery units globally. He is the current President of the British Obesity and Metabolic Specialist Society and is past-council member of the the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
