Dr James Rakshi has been a consultant neurologist for 20 years and has extensive expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic neurological problems. He treats all general neurology problems as well as dementia, dizziness, epilepsy, headache, head injury, multiple sclerosis, neck and back problems, Parkinson's, sleep problems, stroke, and sensory disturbance.
Dr Rakshi earned his medical degree in 1988 from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He became interested in neurology and brain imaging whilst working in the Neurology and Neurosurgical unit of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where the first clinical MRI brain scanner was built. Dr Rakshi studied general medicine for over four years before specialising in neurology, which allows him to approach neurology in a more holistic way. His neurology training was undertaken at various prominent London hospitals, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where he later became an Honorary Consultant. Additionally, he has worked in many of London's district general hospitals and has run an advanced multiple sclerosis centre.
Each patient's symptoms manifest in a unique way, and Dr Rakshi uses a variety of techniques to better assess and treat his patients. He understands the importance of taking the time to listen to his patients and their families, as well as having an open mind when evaluating the more critical and urgent diagnoses; sometimes an inadvertent statement from the patient or family can offer a vital clue that leads to a diagnosis.
Dr Rakshi is known for clearly explaining the patient's neurological condition and how best to treat it. He is also frequently asked to provide a second opinion. He prides himself on arranging investigations in a timely manner and providing detailed reports that are easy to understand. Dr Rakshi's overall approach is straightforward: treat every patient the same way you would want to be treated yourself.

What a fabulous Doctor . Very very thorough who really listens to his patient. In clinic he is calm and subtle and this is reflected in his diagnosis or continued diagnosis until he gets to the bottom of things . Dr Rakshi I understand has many patients sent to him for a 2nd opinion, and I can see why as a Neurologist who clearly plans meticulously and investigates to get a diagnosis. A doctor who works with the patient with very well explained reports .
I recently relocated back to the UK and required a specialist in Parkinson's, following my diagnosis in the Netherlands. My wife and I found DR Rakshi on Doctify through HCA Healthcare website. I have found the excellent reviews Dr James Rakshi has received to be completely justified. He is an excellent communicator, listener and gave me clear uncomplicated diagnosis. Dr Rakshi undertook a through examination, including an MRI (which i had not had previously). We meet 3 times after the initial consultation and as a result made changes to my medication regime. This has resulted in a much better management of my symptoms and improved nights sleep.
After suffering a neurological event which was initially feared to be a potential stroke and being released prematurely by an NHS hospital, we managed to book an appointment with Dr. Rakshi the next morning. Dr. Rakshi immediately started asking all the right questions in a personable and calm but highly efficient, sharp way. He provided very clear explanations and observations around my symptoms and the potential causes, and immediately referred us for a same-day MRI and some additional tests. Followed up within less than a week with a follow up appointment which he helped me book personally by slotting me in between other appointments even though the hospital stated his calendar was full. Overall he was fantastic at helping us understand the situation, putting our mind at ease, and understanding next steps. I highly recommend him.
We don’t usually write reviews, but in this case we felt compelled to make an exception so that others can benefit from the outstanding care we received from Dr Rakshi. He brought an immediate sense of clarity and calm to a very difficult situation, showing remarkable patience not only with our dad but with our whole family. Despite clearly having a full schedule, he always made the time to explain the diagnosis, prognosis, and every available option in a way that was thorough, compassionate, and never rushed. His professionalism, empathy, and dedication have made an enormous difference to us, and we could not recommend him more highly.
Dr Rakshi is a kind and caring professional. He takes his time to explain everything really clearly and really wants to help his patients.
I would like to express my gratitude to my Doctor James for his excellent care. He was very helpful, kind, and professional throughout my treatment. I truly appreciate his support and dedication.
Dr Rakshi was considerate, thorough and patient. I felt very well looked after.
Our experience with Dr James Rakshi can be described as nothing short of wonderful. He is an outstanding neurologist, empathetic, reassuring and encouraging. He is clear and thorough in his explanation. He is personable and very witty. We first met Dr Rakshi in December 2022 following Alzheimer’s Disease diagnosis at the local EMDASS centre. We contacted him for a second opinion because we felt EMDASS had not carried out sufficient investigation prior to arriving at the AD diagnosis. Dr Rakshi swiftly arranged further investigations e.g. brain scan, blood tests, etc., results which indicated evidence of Cerebrovascular Disease. Currently under his care, risk factors associated with vascular dementia are closely monitored/under treatment. We do review consultations with Dr Rakshi every 6 months and very much look forward to our return visits. We have no hesitation recommending Dr Rakshi to others.
Dr Rakshi is an excellent physician. From his initial welcome, through his clear explanation of the process by which he formulated his management plan to his discussion of diagnosis I was made to feel relaxed and supported in my patient journey. He demonstrated kindness and professionalism throughout and I would would not hesitate to recommend him to patients looking for an experienced and skilled neurologist.
The visit was actually for my Mother who is 91 and suffering with Alzheimers and had an unexplained physical problem which we thought may be neurological. I had heard of Dr Rakshi and went to see him with my Mother, my Sister and a carer. Quite a crowd. Dr Rakshi was extremely kind and respectful to my Mother who was in a wheelchair. He spoke directly to her and included her in the consultation. Many doctors have not done this in the past and my Mother really warmed to him. He could not tell us exactly what her issue was without doing some tests but after explaining how difficult it would be for my Mother to undergo these tests he worked out a plan which would not be too intrusive for my Mother but hopefully give him some answers. During the consultation Dr Rakshi was friendly and happy to answer as many questions as we threw at him!
Great neurologist. Good opinion. Very knowledgeable.

CardiologistI have known and worked with James for many years. As a GP I want a consultant to pick the phone up if I call as if I do need to call they will know it is important. James is superb and always on the end of a phone to guide me where needed and see my patients very quickly. We work as a team where I may do the work up, so by time he sees the patient he has what he needs, thus streamlining the patient journey and involving less stress. James is an excellent clinician and well like by his patients. He is one of best neurologists I know and I have no hesitation him giving him a 5* review
