Dr Gajen Sunthar Kanaganayagam

Dr Kanaganayagam is a consultant cardiologist who works at Imperial College NHS Trust and Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust. He sees patients who have chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness, leg swelling and for cardiac risk management. He manages a broad range of conditions such as coronary artery disease, valve disease, arrhythmias and heart failure, as well as hypertension and high cholesterol.

Dr Kanaganayagam is the head of cardiology imaging at Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals, and is very experienced in CT coronary angiography (with calcium score), stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and cardiac MRIs. He regularly performs cardiology imaging for his and other heart specialists' patients to help manage their conditions. He initiated a large Community Heart Failure service at Imperial and continues to care for patients with both reduced and preserved systolic function (HFPEF and HFREF), as well as other complex conditions. His passion for high quality care is reflected in his previous role as one of three Directors of Quality and Safety across Imperial and his position on the Executive Management Board.

Dr Kanaganayagam is involved in cardiovascular research, and he has written a number of review papers and delivered lectures on cardiac CT, echocardiography, and cardiac MRI both in the UK and abroad. He is also an honorary senior lecturer in cardiology at Imperial College.
