Dr Ali Mohammed

Dr Ali Mohammed is a highly experienced Consultant Respiratory and General Physician, practising at Whipps Cross University Hospital and Royal London Hospital as part of Barts Health NHS Trust. He also sees private patients at The London Independent Hospital, The Harley Street Clinic, and The Holly. With nearly three decades of medical experience, Dr Mohammed specialises in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of respiratory conditions, including complex and rare presentations. He is particularly renowned for his expertise in pleural and thoracic ultrasound, bronchoscopy, and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and is widely respected as a leading operator and trainer in these procedures.

Dr Mohammed graduated from Baghdad Medical School in 1996 and has worked in the UK since 1999. He completed his postgraduate training in Respiratory and General (Internal) Medicine in Edinburgh at several renowned respiratory centres. Following his consultant appointment at Stirling Royal Infirmary, he moved to London in 2010 to take up his current posts. He is now the clinical lead for lung cancer, pleural disease, bronchoscopy, and EBUS services at Whipps Cross University Hospital, where he established the thoracic ultrasound and EBUS services within the Barts Health NHS Trust. He also plays a key role in the development of respiratory clinical guidelines and audit projects across the Trust.

His clinical expertise covers a wide spectrum of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, sleep disorders, interstitial and occupational lung diseases, pulmonary vascular disease, and pleural effusion. He is also experienced in the use of bronchoscopy and EBUS for diagnosis and staging of lung disease, and has led the establishment of minimally invasive pleural services at his NHS trust.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Mohammed is actively involved in medical education. He is an examiner for the MRCP PACES Part 2 examinations at the Royal Colleges of Physicians and teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees through the London Deanery. He is also a well-regarded medico-legal expert in respiratory and general medicine, frequently providing expert reports in complex clinical negligence and personal injury cases.

Fluent in Arabic and English, Dr Mohammed combines clinical leadership with hands-on expertise to deliver high-quality care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
