I went into The London Clinic for a Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy under general anaesthetic. I was quite anxious when I first arrived in the theatre ward as I had a migraine and also had to walk a long way and ascend a busy lift from my room to the theatre on the other side of the hospital and I had been fasting for 24 hours at that point. Dr Rajendran visited me before the anaesthetic and he was very patient and kind and spent a lot of time with me explaining what to expect, he made me feel calm and relaxed. After the procedure he visited me once I had woken up and explained what he had found. I then had a follow-up telephone call with him a few days later where he was again very patient and able to explain everything to me in great detail. It is very much appreciated. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind feedback. I am glad to hear that you felt comfortable during the whole process. It was a pleasure to look after you, and the experienced endoscopy team at The London Clinic also played an important part in ensuring everything went smoothly.

Struggling with achalasia Achalasia is a rare condition that affects the oesophagus, making it difficult to swallow as the muscles fail to relax properly. This prevents food and liquids from moving easily into the stomach, leading to symptoms such as chest pain, regurgitation, and persistent swallowing difficulties. While the exact cause of achalasia is unknown, it is often linked to the loss of nerve cells in the oesophagus.

Barrett’s oesophagus occurs when the cells lining the oesophagus undergo abnormal changes, often due to chronic acid reflux (GORD). This condition is a known risk factor for oesophageal cancer, though the likelihood of cancer developing remains relatively low. However, untreated acid reflux can lead to the advancement of Barrett’s oesophagus, potentially increasing the risk of cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment can effectively manage the condition.
