About Dr. Alexandros Georgiou
Dr Alex Georgiou is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Hospital (GSTT) and King's College Hospitals London, UK. He specialises in the treatment of thoracic malignancies: lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymic cancers.
Dr Georgiou currently serves as the clinical service lead for all Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and the lung cancer and mesothelioma clinical trials lead at GSTT.
He is the UK chief investigator and principal investigator at GSTT in multiple international clinical trials investigating novel treatments for lung cancer and mesothelioma. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at King's College London (KCL) and leads on academic research at KCL and GSTT aiming to improve the early diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for lung cancer patients.
He completed his medical oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, 2012-2019. During his training he secured competitive Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funding, which supported his successful three-year PhD (2015-2018) at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) London. His doctoral research explored the mechanisms of resistance to targeted anti-cancer therapies, earning him a Merit award from the European Society of Medical Oncology Congress (ESMO) in 2018 and a University of London scholarship in 2019.
He has an extensive publication record in oncology and in particular lung cancer and has been invited to speak at both national and international oncology conferences. This was my 7th year attending the Outpatient Clinic. The consultation with Dr Georgiou went smoothly without delay. Dr Georgiou and I had a good discussion about my conditions and he explained very clearly what he thought and the way forward. We agreed on the plan.
As always, Dr Georgiou is charming and welcoming. He treats you with compassion and understanding.
Doctor Georgiou had been my oncologist for many years. As always, he was very approachable. I feel that he sees me as a person and not a statistic. He is very knowledgeable and is up to date with the latest in lung cancer treatment so he is able to recommend the best treatment plan for me. He is able to address all my questions which put my mind at ease.
I am always shown care, attentiveness and my problems are listened to.
Professional as always, takes the time to explain all aspects of my treatment. I count myself very fortunate to have Dr Georgiou looking after me. Highly recommend, I consider myself in a safe pair of hands.
Always friendly, helpful and understanding of us fearful patients! Aware of concerns for quality of life. Explained my treatment of recent development of combining targeted therapy along with chemo is now I believe regarded as the gold star for EGFR and its mutations. Finally gave the good news of recent CT scan showing reduction in cancer size and no other mets apart from those already known. Can’t recommend Dr Georgiou highly enough!
